The Cutest Christmas Tree Ornaments That You Can Make in Minutes!
What’s better than a Christmas tree?
A squishy, cinnamony Christmas tree ornament! Make one of these for yourself, or a dozen to give away. Each will be unique, adorable, and will bring the scents of Christmas to the holiday celebration.
DIY Puffy Christmas Tree Ornaments
The most huggable tree of the season.
What You’ll need
Fabric (5 inches square)—cotton is best
Matching or contrasting thread (your choice!)
Needle
Scissors
Ruler
Marker
White glue
A handful of polyester pillow stuffing
A chopstick or other pointy tool
A twig or cinnamon stick for the “trunk”
Buttons or beads for embellishments
String for the hanging loop.
Instructions
1.
Cut a 5-inch square of fabric. Don’t worry about making it a perfect square.
2.
Fold the square in half, diagonally, right sides together.
3.
Measure 5 inches on the longest side of the triangle and make a mark. Draw a line from the mark to the opposite corner.
4.
Cut along the line you drew.
5.
Sew along the longest side of your folded triangle, leaving the bottom open.
6.
Turn the triangle right-side out and push the tip carefully (chopsticks can be useful) to make it pointy.
7.
Push a bit of stuffing into the tip. Then fill the rest to desired level of puffiness.
8.
Stitch the bottom opening almost halfway across.
9.
Apply a little bit of white glue to one end of your cinnamon stick or twig, then insert the glue-y end into the stuffing, going in about half an inch.
10.
Continue stitching tightly around the stick, finishing the bottom and tying off your thread neatly.
11.
Embellish the front of your tree with a cute button (or three) or use beads, according to your taste.
12.
Add a coordinating loop of string at the top for hanging. You can also add a star button or bead at the tip of the tree, if you’d like.
Suggested variations
Try using different sized squares to make the trees bigger or smaller. Use rectangles to make skinnier trees.
Try using felt, felted wool, lightweight denim, or other types of fabric.
Have fun with colors and textures and themes. You don’t have to stick to traditional Christmas motifs!
